Vietnam Replaces Rail Contractor

“PT Sans”;mso-font-width:99%\”>Hanoi’s troubled Cát Linh-Hà Đông elevated railway project is replacing the contractor for the La Thành Station for failing to meet construction safety requirements and falling short on quality and progress.

mso-bidi-font-family:”PT Sans”;color:black;mso-font-width:99%\”>According to Vietnam News, inspections by the Railway Project Management Unit (PMU) on La Thành Station (1 of 12 on the line) found shortcomings in the construction of the station, posing risks to road users, and identified weak financial management and materials procurement, and work to be 40 days behind schedule.

mso-bidi-font-family:”PT Sans”;color:black;mso-font-width:99%\”>Overall costs on the controversial 13km project have increased by over USD339 million on top of the original 2008 USD552 million estimate. Work by the Chinese main contractor and Vietnamese sub-contractor was suspended in November 2015 after a number of serious accidents.
