Water Taxi to Launch in April, Six Terminals Under Construction

The water taxi connecting Phnom Penh-Prek Pov-Takmao is scheduled to go into service in April with the initial two boats and six terminals.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) is currently undertaking construction on the six terminals at Prek Pnov Station, Russei Keo Station, Phae Bondet Station (Night Market), Naga World Station, Chbar Ampov Station and Takmao Park Station.

According to an MPWT spokesman Va Sim Soriya, about USD2 million is reserved for this project.

“Initially, there will be two boats put in service with each of them capable of carrying around 60 passengers. The original plan consists of about 16 to 18 stops, this April we open only for six terminals first,” said Mr Soriya.

“This water transportation service is expected to help ease the traffic in Phnom Penh by providing an alternative for commuters from Prek Pnov and Takmao to come into to Phnom Penh and vice versa,” he added.

To date, the MPWT has yet to reveal the price, schedule, and other details of this new transportation service.
