World’s skinniest skyscraper completed in New York

The world’s skinniest skyscraper in the world located in New York City— Steinway Tower or111 West 57th Street— has been completed and is ready for residents to move in.

This luxurious apartment tower has a height of 435m, 24 times of its width, with a total of 84 floors and over 530,000 sqm of floor space.

Developed by JDS Development Group and Property Markets Group with a cost of US$2 billion, the tower contains 60 residences, 14 in Steinway Hall and 46 full-floor and duplex residences within the tower.

The building uses the strongest concrete in the world and is reinforced with 1.6 million metres of rebar.

A large mechanical penthouse houses an 800-ton tuned mass damper to minimise movement and vibrations inside the tower, reported GCR.

The architects said their main goal was to create a new and bold interpretation of the New York skyline, while also celebrating the location’s historic roots.
