EU Partners with Cambodia to Enhance Energy Efficiency with €6 Million Grant

In an important stride towards sustainable industrial development, the European Union has announced a €6 million grant aimed at boosting energy efficiency within Cambodia’s industrial sector. This initiative was revealed during a productive meeting between HE Hem Vandy, Cambodia’s Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, and an EU delegation in Phnom Penh.

The discussions centered around potential collaborations to strengthen national laboratory services, establish urbanization standards, and promote the adoption of green energy practices in Cambodian industries. HE Hem Vandy expressed appreciation for the EU’s financial support, emphasizing that initiatives rooted in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles are essential as Cambodia prepares to transition from its least developed country status by the end of 2025.

Moreover, Minister Vandy underscored the need for the EU to extend its assistance to water services for underprivileged communities, particularly those residing near service areas. He called for technical support to help develop a legal framework that would improve water sector management efficiency. In response, HE Igor Driesmans, the EU Ambassador to Cambodia, reaffirmed the EU’s unwavering commitment to supporting the nation’s development goals.

Additionally, the EU pledged to fund the establishment of a training center dedicated to developing water management professionals, further strengthening Cambodia’s capacity in this vital sector.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable future for Cambodia, aligning with the country’s goals for responsible industrialization and improved living standards for its citizens.
