Final Installation of the Iron Bridge to Be Completed After Khmer New Year

Phnom Penh City Municipality warned all boat operators not to travel under the middle part of the iron bridge during April 13 to 16 as the installation of the last two bridge body parts will take place during that period.

The warning was issued to avoid any incidents happening during the installation. However, only passage under the two middle sections of the bridge was banned. Therefore, boats were still crossing at both the left and the right side. All boats were also urged to slow their speed when crossing the construction site to avoid big waves which will distract the construction.

The 506-metre long and 12-metres wide bridge is a temporary structure built to help ease the traffic while the Cambodia-Japan Friendship Bridge is under renovation. It stretches from the Sokimex petrol station on National Road No. 6 to the Chroy Changva satellite city.

Starting construction in around October last year, this iron bridge is worth about USD10 million and is funded by the Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC).

The Cambodia-Japan Friendship Bridge renovation is currently about 27 percent completed and is expected to be fully finished by July 2019.
