Government exchanges 30 hectares of Beoung Ta Mok with other three land areas

The government has decided to grant ownership of 30 hectares of Beoung Ta Mok to Mrs Kim Heang in exchange with three other land areas, according to a letter from the Council of Ministers to the Minister of Economy and Finance, the Minister of Land Management, Urbanisation and Construction, the Minister of Water

Resources and Meteorology and the Governor of Phnom Penh dated 27 April 2020.

The letter confirms the land swop of 30 hectares of Beoung Ta Mok located in Kork Roka commune, Prek Pnov district, Phnom Penh to Mrs Kim Heang in exchange for 3 hectares located to the east of the Win-Win Memorial, 2 hectares in the satellite garden city in Prek Pnov district and a 4.8-hectare former garbage field in

Stung Meanchey. The decision details that the swop must:

1) Address remaining issues with the holders of the 30 hectares of lake land who have occupying documents at a price of US$5 per square metre;

2) Permit tax duty-free and additional exemption from inter-ministerial services in transferring all of the above ownerships.

Tamok Lake or Kob Srov Lake has a total area of 3239.7 hectares. The lake was defined by a government sub-decree dated 3 February 3, 2016, as state public property. The public lake covers the entire lake and surrounding lands.

In 2018, the Royal Government approved 20 hectares of the lake to build a fruit and vegetable market and to move the vegetable market from Phsar Deum Kor to Psar Beoung Tamok Thmey market in response to a request from the Council of Minister’s letter dated on 2 August 2018.

A further 83 hectares of the water area of Beoung Ta Mok in the northwest of the capital was granted to Phnom Penh Municipality on 5 March 2020 to be developed as a national garden and public park, including plans to develop other infrastructure such as the buildings of the Central Department of Security of the National Police at the Ministry of Interior.
