Cambodia Asks China to Support Seven Prioritised Infrastructure Development Projects for 2022-2024

Cambodia has asked China to provide a concessional loans to support seven prioritised infrastructure development projects for 2022-2024.

This is according to the plenary meeting of the Cambodia-China Intergovernmental Coordinating Committee for the Implementation of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Cooperation via video call on 14 July 2022.

The two sides have agreed to prioritise infrastructure development projects, including:

  • Kratie Mekong bridge and Kratie connecting road construction project
  • National Road 7 expansion project
  • Rural power transmission line expansion project
  • Dang Kambit reservoir development project in Kampong Thom Province
  • Construction project of Tonle Bassac Chak Angre Krom-Prek Pra Bridge
  • Project to upgrade National Road No. 3 (PK181 + 100-Veal Renh)
  • Project to expand National Road 6 in Siem Reap

At the same time, Cambodia also requested China to provide grant funding for infrastructure development in 2022-2024, such as:

  • National Road 7 improvement project
  • Conduct a feasibility study and continue the procedure for the construction of a wastewater treatment system in Sihanoukville
  • Rural road improvement and water supply project phase 3
  • Continue to support demining activities in Cambodia

Recently, Cambodia and China signed a loan agreement on Hong Kong-SHV Submarine Fibre Optic Cable Project with approximately US$344 million for four major projects in the road and cable sector. (Read more)

For Development Cooperation Finance (China ODA) 2020-2022, China has provided more than US$432 million in concessional loans for the development of electricity, roads and irrigation projects.

However, besides loans, China also provided a grant of about a 2.7-billion-yuan, equivalent to over US$399 million in China ODA to the Cambodians.
