Cambodia Drafts New Sub-Decree on Energy Management as Investors Express Interest

The Ministry of Mines and Energy is drafting a new sub-decree to manage and improve the energy efficiency of electrical appliances, while Korean companies mull investing more in the energy sector in Cambodia. 

According to the official meeting on 9 February 9, the draft sub-decree aims to set regulations for the management and promotion of energy efficiency of electrical appliances in the Kingdom of Cambodia. 

This management will follow the standards and labelling of energy efficiency by the national policy on energy efficiency. 

This sub-decree was reviewed and finalized by the inter-ministerial working group before being submitted to the Economic and Financial Policy Committee for further review and request for approval from the Royal Government. 

While the government is actively pushing an energy efficiency policy, Korea’s state-owned Oasis Energy has recently expressed interest in boosting investment in the energy sector in Cambodia. 

The company is looking for opportunities to strengthen cooperation with Cambodia, including developing standardized power management systems as well as power supply networks.
