Gov’t to Inaugurate Five Infrastructure Projects & Break Ground on Several Others in 2022

After the country’s reopening on 1 November, the Cambodian government has jump-started the economy by restarting operations in almost all sectors. Infrastructure development is one of those that the government has put significant effort and resources into.

In early November, several ministries have been inaugurated and saw ground broken on. On Tuesday 23 November, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen also inaugurated Stueng Trang-Krouch Chmar Bridge and broke ground on the NR71C.

According to the Minister of Public Works and Transport, more infrastructure projects will be inaugurated and broken ground on:

Projects set to be inaugurated:

• 6 December 2021: NR11 from Neak Loeung to NR7
• 10 January 2022: NR5 from Battambang to Serei Sophorn
• 7 February 2022: 93km Kratie-Stueng Treng Road
• 14 February 2022: 7 bridges funded by the Japanese government, two of which are located along NR11 while 5 others are located along NR73
• 2 March 2022: NR3 Chom Chao-Kampot

Projects set to begin construction soon:

• NR41 (connecting NR4 to NR3), NR31 (connecting Bek Kous to Kampong Trach), NR33 (connecting Kampot to Kep) renovation
• Road expansion from 2 lanes to 4 lanes from Skun to Kampong Cham. The construction contract for this project has already been signed
• Mekong River crossing bridge in Kratie province. The framework agreement has been signed, waiting for the loan agreement
• 148km NR48 renovation connecting Srei Ambel to Kong Kong, 25km of which will be expanded to 4 lanes
• A feasibility study of building a new bridge in Prek Pra and Chak Angre areas, to ease the traffic congest on the Preah Monivong Bridge
