How Bentley Software is Saving Millions on Brazil’s New Bridge

Sener Mobility has successfully leveraged advanced digital engineering software to optimize the foundation design for the BRL 10.42 billion Salvador-Itaparica Bridge project in Brazil.

Tasked with managing complex soil and rock conditions for the 12.5-kilometer bridge, the engineering team transitioned from traditional 2D workflows to an integrated 3D approach using Bentley Systems’ subsurface software, Leapfrog Works, and PLAXIS.

First, Leapfrog Works was utilized to generate highly accurate 3D geological models from diverse data sources, giving engineers a clear and rapid understanding of the complicated ground conditions.

PLAXIS was then deployed to perform complex finite element analysis, simulating soil-structure interactions to evaluate the mechanical performance and long-term stability of the deep foundations.

By integrating these tools, Sener Mobility drastically improved project efficiency and reduced structural risks. The software allowed the team to cut geological interpretation time by 20% to 30% and optimize pile designs by 10%.

Ultimately, these digital solutions saved 1,000 work hours, accelerated the design duration by up to 20%, and are projected to lower concrete and steel material costs by 5% to 10% while reducing expensive design changes during construction by 15%.

Discover how PLAXIS can improve your next geotechnical design project with powerful 3D modeling and risk mitigation tools.
