The monument resplendently sprawls over an expanse of 662 square metres, encompassing a majestic base measuring 35 metres in diameter and soaring to a height of 22.23 metres. Accentuated by four serene pools, each standing 0.8 metres tall, the monument’s design reflects the essence of Khmer heritage. Adorned with intricate motifs such as kbong pong Trey, kbach changva Angkor, and kbach trapak chhouk, the monument stands as a tribute to the nation’s history and spirit.

The visionary Samdech Krala Hom Park, an integral part of the inauguration, spans an impressive 13,850 square metres and is thoughtfully divided into five distinctive zones. Embracing the themes of happiness, tranquillity, historical remembrance, peace, and anticipation, the park beckons visitors into a serene haven of natural beauty and cultural significance.

The governor added that the provincial leadership’s commitment to enhancing the cityscape is evident in the expansion of the park’s footprint eastward, spanning the tranquil Sangke River. A landmark project aims to revitalise Thnoun 53 with the planting of 53 graceful thnong trees. Pedestrian-friendly amenities including seating arrangements, cycling paths, and walkways will grace the park, fostering an environment of leisure and enjoyment.

Echoing a commitment to both historical preservation and contemporary allure, the project to renovate the surroundings of the Independence Monument covers a sprawling 11,543 square metres. This initiative encapsulates a harmonious blend of heritage and modernity, an embodiment of Battambang’s cultural evolution.

Samdech Krala Hom Sar Kheng encapsulated the collective hope for the monument and its encompassing infrastructure, envisioning them as beacons to beckon travellers to Battambang. Foreseeing heightened tourism and economic activity, he called upon citizens and visitors to steward the environment with care and dedication, a shared effort to nurture nature through planting more trees.
