Iran Mulls Investing in Cambodia’s Oil & Gas Sector

Cambodia’s oil and gas sector has attracted the attention of Iranian investors, as Cambodia has many potential spots both offshore and onshore.

In a meeting with Minister of Mines and Energy HE Suy Sem on 21 February, Ambassador of Iran to Cambodia HE Ali Akbar Nazari said that Iran is ready for cooperation in the field of exploration and development of oil and gas, as well as boosting oil and gas supplies to Cambodia.

For his part, HE Suy Sem welcomed Iran on the intention to invest and cooperate in oil and gas exploration in Cambodia, adding that Cambodia has many oil blocks both onshore and offshore.

At the meeting, the two parties also discussed the feasibility of co-investment in Cambodia’s existing oil blocks, new exploration, and plans to establish an oil refinery factory plan in Cambodia.

Both parties also discussed the renewal of the MoU on cooperation in the oil sector, as the old one has already expired.
