Japan Provides US$2-million Grant Aid to Help Repair Flood-Damaged Infrastructure

The Japanese government has provided grant aid of approximately US$2 million to help repair damaged infrastructure caused by severe flooding in October last year.

Speaking at the aid signing ceremony on 22 February, the Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia HE Mikami Masahiro said that the US$2 million fund will be provided through the World Food Program.

He continued that this assistance will support the rehabilitation of communities and infrastructure damaged by floods, such as irrigation systems and rural roads.

“I sincerely hope that this project will mitigate the negative impact of floods on the food security of flood-affected households and communities and contribute to promoting cooperative relations between the two countries,” said HE Mikami.

The floods in October damaged a total of over 3,000 kilometres of infrastructure and a budget of at least US$91 million is needed for the rehabilitation. (Read more)
