Japan to Upgrade Six Provincial Hospitals in Cambodia to Regional High-Standard Health Centres

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Cambodia Office has revealed plans to help upgrade referral hospitals in six provinces in Cambodia to become regional high-standard health centres to expand public health services to rural areas.

This project was discussed during a meeting between Kampot Governor HE Cheav Tay and JICA technical advisors on Thursday 22 July.

According to the meeting, the six target provinces are Kampot, Kampong Cham, Svay Rieng, Stung Treng, Battambang and Phnom Penh.

This project was tested in 2017 but was not successful. Thus, JICA has developed a new mechanism and done more in-depth studies for better results.

The mission was carried out at the request of the Ministry of Health with the aim of expanding health services closer to the people.

Kampot Governor HE Cheay Tay, in response, expressed his full support and requested the director of the Provincial Health Department to cooperate and assist JICA delegates in whatever way possible.
