Expanding Coastal Charm: Kampot Plans Two New Beaches Following ASEAN Clean Tourism City Award

In the wake of clinching the prestigious 4th ASEAN Clean Tourism City Award in 2024, the Kampot provincial administration is unveiling ambitious plans for further development. According to the Kampot Provincial Information Department on February 15, 2024, the provincial authorities aim to create two additional beaches, marking a significant step in enhancing the region’s tourist appeal.

During an inspection and study project focusing on enhancing the aesthetics of Dong Prek Park at the old water sports field near the dolphin statue on February 10, 2024, HE Mao Thunin, Governor of Kampot Province, revealed the administration’s commitment to various projects aimed at beautifying the city. The proposed beaches include the first one situated between the old bridge and the new bridge and the second one between the new bridge and the Railway bridge.

The governor highlighted ongoing preparations for these two beaches, encompassing the installation of paving tiles in Dang Prek Park, Kampong Bay, the placement of water features on the veranda in front of the old provincial hall, and the transformation of the water sports field into a park. Additionally, plans involve organizing construction along the west bank of the river to establish roads and parks, preparing public parks in front of Wat Troeuy Koh, and more.

Furthermore, the provincial administration intends to revamp and expand the park at the water sports point (gymnasium), ensuring the cleanliness of the Kampong Bay canal and clearing the forest opposite the canal’s west coast, including the bridge and the island.

Upon completion of these revitalization initiatives, Kampot City is expected to undergo a transformative change, showcasing its enhanced beauty and justifying its recognition with the ASEAN Clean Tourism City Award. To celebrate this accomplishment, the provincial administration held a parade on February 15, 2024.

Highlighting Cambodia’s commitment to environmental excellence, the nation has proudly secured three ASEAN Clean Tourist Cities Awards. The prestigious accolades were bestowed upon Daun Penh (Phnom Penh), Kep (Kep), and Kampot City. This remarkable achievement underscores Cambodia’s dedication to fostering clean and sustainable tourism practices, contributing to the nation’s reputation as a prime destination for environmentally conscious travelers.
