Koh Rong Major Infrastructure Development Projects Over 80% Complete

The construction of three major infrastructure development projects on Koh Rong including a new municipality administration complex, hospital, and military base, have been over 80% completed as of 5 July, with plans to open to the public and tourists soon.

Sihanoukville Governor HE Kouch Chamroeun said during a site inspection on 4 July that all construction progress has been going smoothly despite the pandemic.

“Thus far, the Koh Rong Municipal Administration Complex is over 75% complete, the Military Operations Building also at 75%, while the Koh Rong Health Centre is almost 100% complete,” said HE Chamroeun.

All three projects are donations from Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and his wife.

Koh Rong has been growing steadily, with last year Royal Group investing US$35 million to build a 70-kilometre paved road, marking another forward for the firm’s mega-development masterplan.

The Royal Group was granted a 99-year lease on Koh Rong in 2008, to transform the island to become a commercial hub and nature tourism resort.

In late 2019, the Royal Group announced a US$285 million joint venture investment with China’s Royal Galaxy Group to develop Koh Rong into a world-class resort. The project will also include building an airport and solar power stations on the island. (Read more)
