Minister of MAFF Asks WB to Help Build Solar Irrigation System for Cambodian Farmers

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), HE Veng Sakhon, has asked the World Bank (WB) to examine the possibility of constructing a solar irrigation system to help reduce the cost of electricity and fuel for Cambodian farmers.

HE Minister made remarks in a discussion meeting and evaluation of the results of the Mid-Term Project (MTR) and the 5th Implementation Support Mission (ISM) for the Cambodian Agricultural Diversification Project (CASDP) on 21 June 2022.

HE Minister also has requested the WB working group to help build infrastructure to support crop and vegetable production to improve productivity, and value-added production, including marketing and processing.

In addition, HE Veng Sakhon proposed to provide loans to animal husbandry associations to expand production and support training in various skills to turn agricultural communities or animal husbandry communities into rural agribusinesses enterprises.

All these proposals are to fulfil the real and urgent needs of farmers, in line with the context of the global economic situation, and in particular the situation of the COVID19 epidemic crisis, which has continued to better.
