Ministry of Mines and Energy Launches Electricity Infrastructure Project​ in Three Provinces

The Ministry of Mines and Energy has inaugurated substation​transmission lines and distribution networks in Kampong Cham, Kratie, and Koh Kong provinces, built within the framework of a joint project with the French Agency for Development (AFD).

The ceremony was held on 10 May 2022, at the power substation in Neang Kok village, Pak Klang commune, Mondul Seima district, Koh Kong Province, presided over by HE Suy Sem, Minister of Mines and Energy and HE Jacque Pellet, French Ambassador to Cambodia, Koh Kong Provincial Information Department reported on 10 May.

HE Suy Sem said that the substation transmission and power distribution infrastructure will make the transmission system in the western and southern regions of Cambodia into a network to help strengthen each other with stability and sustainable transmission of electricity within the country.

Regarding the project, the Royal Government of Cambodia October 2015 signed an agreement with the French Government on a US$70 million concessional loan from the French Republic and a US$1 million grant from the European Union for capacity building through the French Development Agency (AFD) and EDC’s contribution of 15.41 million euros to implement the construction of substation transmission lines and distribution networks in three provinces: Koh Kong, Kampong Cham and Kratie, and capacity building projects for EDC employees.
