Ministry of Public Works Advances Plans for New Mekong River Bridge Connecting Koh Norea and Arey Ksat

Technical designs and connecting roads were evaluated in a high-level meeting with TP Moral Group and OCIC to enhance regional infrastructure

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has advanced discussions on major infrastructure development with a high-level meeting dedicated to evaluating the study and construction project of a new bridge crossing the Mekong River. Held at the ministry headquarters on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the session was chaired by His Excellency Peng Ponea, the Minister of Public Works and Transport. This strategic meeting brought together ministry leaders, relevant government officials, and key private sector representatives, including delegates from TP Moral Group Co., Ltd. and the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation, widely known as OCIC.

The proposed infrastructure project aims to establish a crucial transportation link across the Mekong River, connecting the landmark Koh Norea area to the Mekong Key Satellite City development zone, which is located within the geographic boundaries of Arey Ksat City in Kandal Province. During the session, participants focused their discussions on reviewing the comprehensive project studies, assessing detailed technical design layouts, and addressing various related works. This includes evaluating the planned framework for the Koh Norea-Mekong Key bridge itself, alongside the crucial connecting road that will run from the Koh Norea bridge to National Road 1. By bringing together public authorities and major investment corporations, the ministry is actively mapping out the necessary technical steps to support this upcoming urban connection.

The construction cost, start date, and source of funding for the project have not yet been specified. Specifically, the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Bridge, which will connect Phnom Penh and Arikyakarta (located in Kandal Province) via the Night Market and Chroy Changvar, is currently in the detailed design study phase. This project is supported by the Korean Ministry of Economy and Finance and is financed by the Korea Development Bank, with a total cost of $235 million. The agreement for this financing was signed on December 9, 2022. (read more)
