MISTI Sets New Regulations for Production & Supply of Clean Water

The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) has set new measures to increase the production and supply of clean water in Cambodia.

Sim Sitha, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Industry, said on 29 November that the Cambodian government has launched a national strategic plan to strengthen the water sector in Cambodia.

The goal is to make urban and rural citizens have 100% access to clean water by 2025 and 2030, respectively.

“Through this strategic plan, the Ministry of Industry has also set multiple regulations for the production and supply of clean water in Cambodia, including 1. Clean water must be quality 2. Clean water must be safe 3. Clean water must be sustainable and 4. Clean water must be reasonably priced,” said HE Sim Sitha.

To date, about 34% of all Cambodians have access to systematic water. Therefore, in order to improve the effectiveness of the above four conditions, the government has also encouraged the private sector to participate in the provision of water supply services in urban and rural areas by granting water supply licenses for 20 years to water supply stations.
