MPWT Minister Urges China to Help Train Cambodian Engineers

The Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol has requested China to send experts to Cambodia to help train local engineers so that they are ready for building large-scale infrastructure in the future.

The proposal was made during a bilateral meeting between HE Sun Chanthol and China’s Minister of Transport HE Li Xiaopeng on 22 June.

HE Sun Chanthol said that even though Cambodia now has the Techo Sen Public Works and Transport Institute to train local engineers, Cambodia still want helps from China to send professors and experts to Cambodia to share their expertise.

In response, HE Li Xiaopeng said that some technical institutes and universities in China are willing to cooperate with the Techo Sen Institute of Public Works and Transport in fostering engineering human resources in Cambodia.

According to data from the Board of Engineers of Cambodia, Cambodia still requires more human resources in the field of engineering, while today only 3.4% of Cambodian students study civil engineering majors at universities.
