MPWT Requests Canada to Help Advise on Phnom Penh Mass Transit System Project

The Minister of Public Works and Transport has asked Canada to help develop a strategy for the development of a Phnom Penh mass transit system including the AGT, subway, and monorail.

The proposal was made during a working meeting between MPWT Minister HE Sun Chanthol and Ambassador of Canada to Thailand, Laos and Cambodia Dr Sarah Taylor on 10 February.

HE Sun Chanthol said Cambodia is currently studying and considering three choices of mass transit system including the AGT, subway, and monorail. However, no decision has been made yet. (Read more)

He, therefore, asked Canada to review and advise on the above three major projects.

Dr Sarah Taylor in response said that Canada can provide training regarding clean infrastructure development and asked the ministry to identify prioritised sectors that need help.

Canada is also looking for local partners or universities to jointly develop a training program for Cambodian students.

HE Sun Chanthol appreciate the help and requested Canada cooperate with Tech Sen Public Works Institute in providing technical training skills to Cambodian students.
