MPWT Speeding Up Prep Work on NR33 Upgrade Project Connecting Kampot to VN Border

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Ministry of Economy and Finance are speeding up the review and evaluation work for the NR33 rehabilitation project connecting downtown Kampot to the Prek Chak Vietnamese border, with construction expected to begin soon.

Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) HE Pal Chandara said during an inter-institutional meeting Friday last week that the additional review and evaluation was to ensure that the road would be built to a high standard and quality.

In early July, the team also did a site inspection, while also revealing a plan to build a flyover bridge across the road in front of Kep Provincial University as well, which is outside the project contract.

The preliminary study for the NR33 renovation project has been completed and is currently being reviewed by the relevant ministries, according to Ministry of Public Works and Transport spokesman HE Vasim Sorya.

He added the China Road & Bridge Corporation is the firm obtaining the right to conduct the study, while Sawac Consultants (Cambodia) Co Ltd is the consultant for the project.

As planned, this NR33 improvement is a Grade II project with a total length of 52km, starting from the NR3 junction near Kampot market (148km+100) to the Cambodia-Vietnam border gate (Lok or Prek Chak).

Meanwhile, the construction will take a total of 24 months under the management of the MPWT under a financing loan from China. (Read more)
