MPWT to Build Cambodia’s First Asphalt Concrete Production Factory

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) is planning to build Cambodia’s first asphalt concrete (AC) factory at the Kampot and Kep provincial border within this year, aiming to produce its own AC for road construction usage.

MPWT Minister HE Sun Chanthol said during an inspection on the morning of Friday 04 June that the factory will have the capacity to produce 120 tons of AC per hour, which is the first of its kind in Cambodia.

“The Shanghai company will send us machinery worth a total of US$1.1 million, while the rest of the construction will be implemented by ourselves with their instruction,” said HE Chanthol.

“To date, the team is currently laying the foundation. Hopefully, in the next three months, the machines can be installed and the factory will later come into operation,” he added.

According to the minister, the reason why MPWT chose the Kampot-Kep border as the location for the factory is that the location is close to the NR31, 33 and 41, which will soon be renovated.

Besides, the ministry also plans to establish another factory in Battambang next year.

“The factory will be directly controlled by the ministry. The products will be used on government projects and can also be sold to the private sector,” said HE Chanthol.

HE Sun Chanthol also hopes that having this factory will help make road construction progress easier, faster, and more cost-effective.
