MPWT Vows to Complete Study on New Waterway Connecting PP-Kampot in Early 2023

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) has pledged to complete the feasibility study on a new waterway connecting Phnom Penh to Kampot through Tonle Bassac by 2023.

MPWT Minister HE Sun Chanthol said on 14 October that the Tonle Bassac Navigation and Logistics Study Project is under review and discussion with the China Bridge and Road Corporation (CRBC) and the experts of CCCC Water Transport Consultant.

The team is now finding solutions to important technical tasks to help accelerate the study of this project.

HE Sun Chanthol also requested both companies to pay more attention to the detailed technical study to have high quality and to cooperate with the technical officer of the ministry to expedite the completion of this study project by January 2023 at the latest.

The Ministry of Public Works further stated that the Tonle Bassac Navigation and Logistics System Project will help boost water transport and logistics in Cambodia to be more efficient.

It will also reduce the cost of transporting and facilitating goods both at domestic and international levels.
