NR 31 Rehabilitation Project Nears Completion, Targets June Finish

The NR No. 31 rehabilitation and upgrading project, covering a distance of over 53km, has achieved an impressive milestone, reaching the 60% completion mark. The Ministry of Public Works and Transport provided an update, stating that the project team, led by HE Khan Mane, Secretary of State of the Ministry, inspected on March 6, 2024.

The inspection involved collaboration with CRBC Construction Company and Guangzhou Wanan Technical Inspection Company. State-of-the-art testing methods, including the use of an FWD machine, were employed to assess the durability of crucial components such as the Subcase Substrate, Basecourse (average result 453MPa-507MPa), AC concrete layers (439MPa-536MPa) and drill the first AC layer thickness ( Result 4.2cm-5cm).

Following the meticulous inspection, the working group affirmed that the rehabilitation project, slated to enhance the quality of NR No. 31, has reached the 60% completion mark. The team aims to conclude the AC road work by June, making the first and second layers of concrete and rubber ready for smooth and seamless travel.

Additional works, encompassing the installation of road equipment, drainage systems, and other essential components, are anticipated to be finalized by the end of 2024, a year ahead of the contractual schedule.

NR 31, spanning 53,539 km from Bek Kus Road (junction of NR 3) to Kampong Trach district town (junction of NR 3), is undergoing rehabilitation at a projected cost exceeding US$60 million. The financing includes a concessional loan from the Government of the People’s Republic of China, coupled with contributions from the Royal Government of Cambodia, addressing various impacts and taxes.
