National Road 48 Rehabilitation Nears Completion: 82% Achieved

The long-awaited rehabilitation and upgrade of National Road 48, stretching 148 kilometres from Sre Ambel to Koh Kong, has completed an impressive 82% according to an announcement by HE Phon Rim, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport on 29 January 2025.

The construction project, which officially commenced on 3 January 2022, aims to significantly enhance road quality for improved transportation, logistics, and tourism potential along this vital economic corridor. Funded through a concessional loan from the Government of the Republic of Korea, along with a budget contribution from the Cambodian government, the project has seen investments totalling over USD 78 million. HE Phon Rim emphasised that all sections of National Road 48 are progressing rapidly, with plans for completion by the end of the dry season in 2025. He also called on all road users, particularly heavy vehicle operators, to exercise caution and avoid overloading, especially on mountain routes. He also urged taxi drivers to maintain reasonable speeds to ensure their safety and that of other road users while helping to mitigate dust on the roadway.

The rehabilitation of National Road 48 is not just a construction project but a strategic initiative with significant implications for economic growth, trade, and tourism in the region. As construction continues, the focus remains on enhancing safety and accessibility for all.
