Newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, Ishizuki Hideo, has pledged to inject fresh momentum into bilateral economic ties by actively driving and expanding Japanese investment inflows into the country. The commitment was made during a formal working meeting on October 21, 2026, with Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).

Welcoming the new envoy, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol expressed strong confidence that Ambassador Ishizuki’s extensive expertise and diplomatic skill will further fortify the longstanding traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Cambodia and Japan across all sectors.

In response, Ambassador Ishizuki affirmed his dedication to working closely with the CDC and relevant ministries and institutions. He emphasized that his tenure will focus heavily on accelerating economic cooperation, expanding trade exchanges, and mobilizing greater levels of Japanese capital to support Cambodia’s ongoing development.

During their discussions, both sides engaged in an in-depth exchange of views covering the broad spectrum of bilateral economic, trade, and investment cooperation. Key topics included physical infrastructure development, human resource training, and the sustained expansion of foreign direct investment (FDI) from Japanese corporate investors.

Concluding the meeting, both leaders expressed firm conviction that the close collaboration between the Council for the Development of Cambodia and the Embassy of Japan—bolstered by existing official dialogue mechanisms—will continue to serve as a vital engine for attracting Japanese investment and propelling Cambodia’s socio-economic advancement.
