Cambodia and Toyota Partner to Accelerate Automotive Manufacturing and Skills Training

A high-level strategic meeting between the Council for the Development of Cambodia and Toyota Tsusho highlights collaborative plans for incentive reforms, local component sourcing, and a new technical training initiative.

Cambodia’s ambitions to expand its burgeoning automotive assembly sector received a fresh boost as the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) and Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. reaffirmed their commitment to deepening industrial cooperation. The renewed partnership was outlined during a formal working meeting on October 16, 2026, between Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Board of the CDC, and a visiting delegation from Toyota.

Discussions during the meeting focused heavily on strategies to elevate Cambodia’s automotive manufacturing capabilities. Both sides explored key policy adjustments, including refined investment incentives and measures to encourage the use of locally sourced raw materials for producing components used in local vehicle assembly projects.

A central highlight of the discussions was Toyota’s announcement of its plan to establish an advanced automotive technical training center in Cambodia. Designed to serve not only the company’s workforce but also the broader Cambodian public, the initiative represents a major step forward for domestic workforce development. Toyota confirmed that it will roll out its first technical training courses by the end of 2026 in partnership with the JVC Industrial Technology Institute.

The CDC warmly welcomed the project, noting that it closely aligns with the Royal Government of Cambodia’s strategic human resource development goals. In particular, the training program directly supports the government’s ambitious national initiative to provide vocational and technical skills training to 1.5 million young people across the country.
