Cambodia Partners with Japan Kansai Economic Federation to Build Regional Automotive Component Hub

Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol connects with a major Japanese business alliance to drive high-tech manufacturing and green energy infrastructure

The Council for the Development of Cambodia and the Kansai Economic Federation of Japan have initiated high-level talks aimed at establishing Cambodia as a premier regional hub for the automotive component manufacturing industry in the near future. This forward-looking strategic initiative took center stage during a bilateral meeting on June 12, 2026, between His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and Masayoshi Matsumoto, the Chairman of the Kansai Economic Federation. The discussion highlights Cambodia’s accelerating shift toward advanced, high-value-added industrial ecosystems.

During the session, the two leaders exchanged strategic insights on the current state and future trajectory of Cambodia’s automotive assembly and component sector. A significant portion of the dialogue was dedicated to sustainable industrial infrastructure, with both sides engaging in deep discussions regarding renewable energy development. They focused on expanding green energy sources, improving overall energy efficiency, and implementing smart grid technologies to manage regional electrical networks. These environmental frameworks are intended to support sustainable production lines while directly reinforcing Cambodia’s national commitments to carbon reduction and climate mitigation.

Capitalizing on the momentum of Cambodia’s open investment climate, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol requested that the Japanese federation actively promote Cambodia’s emerging manufacturing potential among its extensive network of member companies. He urged industrial firms within this vital Japanese economic zone to conduct feasibility studies and explore actual investment opportunities on the ground in the kingdom. In response, Chairman Matsumoto welcomed the proposition and expressed strong interest in Cambodia’s current economic progress, noting the nation’s robust growth and long-term potential.

Overall, both delegations view this interaction as an important milestone in modern economic diplomacy, serving to boost the confidence of major Japanese investors. The engagement is expected to further deepen the long-standing bonds of friendship, trade, and mutual investment between Cambodia and Japan, lifting their commercial alliance to a more advanced level.
