Ground Broken on NR31 & NR33 Expansion Project

The project to expand and renovate NR31 and NR33 in Kampot and Kep provinces officially began on 30 December under a concessional loan from China. 

The ground-breaking ceremony was held under the auspices of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia HE Wang Wentian. 

The two national roads will be built by the China Bridge and Road Corporation (CRBC) and technically inspected by Guangzhou Wanan Construction Supervision Co., Ltd. 

Both roads are scheduled to take 40 months to complete, with a completion date scheduled for 2026. 

The renovation of NR31 will cost over US$60 million and while NR33 will take a budget of US$61 million, a concessional loan from the Chinese government and some contribution from the Cambodian government. 

NR31 has a total length of nearly 54km from Bek Kus (intersection of NR3) to Kampong Trach district (junction of NR33). 

NR33 has a total length of almost 53 km from Kampot (junction of NR3) to the border (Cambodia-Vietnam border), including the road in Kampot (Road No. 709).
