NR5 Battambang-Serey Sophorn Section Opened for Public Usage Today

The National Road 5 Battambang-Serey Sophorn section and Battambang city detour highway have been opened for public usage from today onward after construction was completed.

Meanwhile, the other three sections are on track for completion by 2022, 2023 and 2024, respectively.

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), the remaining sections that are under construction including the Prek Kdam – Pursat and Pursat – Battambang. Both are scheduled for completion in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Meanwhile, for the section between Serey Sophorn and Poi Pet, MPWT is bidding for a construction firm, so the road construction is expected to be completed in 2024.

The renovation of NR5 has a total length of 366km connecting the capital to the northwestern part of the country passing through Kompong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey provinces.

The road will be upgraded to Asphalt Concrete (AC) and expanded to four lanes with a width of 23m. The project is being undertaken with a loan of US$500 million from the Japanese government.
