Oddar Meanchey on Track to Achieve 100% Electricity Connection with Upcoming Coal-Fired Plant

Oddar Meanchey is gearing up for 100% electricity connectivity by June this year as the 265MW coal-fired power plant in Trapaing Prasat district is set to begin operations soon, according to HE Pen Kosal, the provincial governor, said in a press conference on 21 March 2023.

Currently, electricity has been supplied to 276 out of 308 villages, equating to over 60,000 families (90.47% of the total 308 villages). The remaining 32 villages are expected to have electricity by June or early July 2023.

“In order to achieve the supply plan of the remaining villages, the provincial administration set a clear goal to provide electricity in all areas by June or early July 2023 as the provincial technical teams are currently working on expanding the electricity poles, in particularly rural areas,” H.E. governor added saying that after completion, the plant would supply electricity locally in Oddor Meanchey and to some areas in neighbouring Siem Reap province.

With the upcoming coal-fired power plant and the provincial administration’s efforts, Oddar Meanchey is on track to achieve 100% electricity connectivity, providing an essential resource to its residents and further promoting economic growth in the province.
