Opening Date of Dara Sakor Airport Postponed Again

The opening date of Dara Sakor Airport in Koh Kong Province has been postponed until mid-2023 due to the delay in construction progress, said HE Sin Chansereyvutha, spokesman for the Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation on 23 November.

The main reasons for the delay were the cash flow issue and the war between Russia and Ukraine, which caused oil prices to rise, severely affecting the completion of the project.

HE Sin Chansereyvutha stated another factor is the COVID-19 crisis and China’s Zero Covid policy, which affected the cost of shipping and the raising the price of raw materials.

He said the trade between China and the United States was also another factor, which make purchases of airport equipment more difficult.

The initial cost of the project was US$350 million, but due to the above-mentioned factors, the cost has also increased accordingly, he added.
