Over US$200 million spent on repairing damaged roads each year

The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation spends between US$150 to 200 million annually to repair damaged roads across Cambodia, according to Public Works, and Transport Minister H.E. Sun Chanthol.

H.E. Sun Chanthol stated this during a press conference on the progress and future direction of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport at the Council of Ministers on 21 February.

“The roads have been damaged a lot so far due to many factors. However, overweight vehicles are the main one. Thus, if all vehicles are not overloaded and under control, all roads will last longer given the better construction quality,” said H.E. Sun Chanthol.

“We will then spend less on that, and we can use those budget to build more infrastructure,” he added.

In the past few years, the infrastructure in Cambodia has improved rapidly, seen by many road projects been and currently constructing.
