Panasonic Plans New Factory in Cambodia Amidst Strong Regional Presence

In a significant move, Panasonic Cambodia announced its intention to establish a manufacturing facility in Cambodia as part of its ongoing expansion in Southeast Asia. The renowned Japanese electronics manufacturer operates 19 factories across Thailand and Vietnam, with 15 located in Thailand and four in Vietnam.

This announcement was made during a productive meeting on 21 March 2025, between HE Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and a delegation from Panasonic Cambodia. Mr. Hisakazu Maeda, Country Director of Panasonic Cambodia, revealed that the company is registering its products with the Institute of Standards Cambodia (ISC), paving the way for the new factory’s establishment.

Panasonic currently commands approximately 60% of the Cambodian market for wall-mounted products, highlighting its significant influence in the region. Minister Hem Vandy responded positively to Panasonic’s proposal, encouraging the company to explore special economic zones for potential factory locations. He also urged Panasonic to engage in research and innovation initiatives while integrating local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) into its production chain.

The ministry expressed its commitment to fostering an environment conducive to Japanese investment, aiming to attract more international businesses to Cambodia and support the local economy’s growth. This initiative promises to bolster Cambodia’s manufacturing sector and create new job opportunities, further contributing to the country’s economic development.
