Phnom Penh and Takhmao City facing water shortage, plans to increase production capacity

Phnom Penh and Takhmao City, Kandal Province are currently facing a water shortage of about 250,000 cubic meters per day, with the demand reaching up to 890,000 cubic meters. The Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority has a production capacity of only 640,000 cubic meters per day, leading to a shortage of water supply in some areas of the two cities.

In response, the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority has called for understanding from customers experiencing water shortage in the dry season and urged all customers in Phnom Penh and Takhmao to save water. The authority has also announced plans to increase its production capacity to address the shortage.

Starting from May, the Bak Kheng Water Station, Phase 1, will increase its production capacity by 200,000 cubic meters of water per day. By the beginning of 2024, the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority aims to produce an additional 200,000 cubic meters of clean water daily, bringing the total production capacity to over 1 million cubic meters daily.

With these measures in place, the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority is confident that all customers in Phnom Penh and Takhmao will have sufficient clean water for daily use.
