Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway Remains on Course

The US$2 billion Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway project is moving forward without any changes, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT).

On 08 January, 2019, H.E. Va Simsorya, spokesman for MPWT told Construction&Property Magazine that the highway construction project remains on course.

“This project will start construction, but we do not know the exact date for the official ground breaking because we still have unfinished work to do”, he said.

The construction had not yet begun on schedule by November 2018 because the team is still dealing with some of the impacts on people, but the company in charge of the project has already begin delivering equipment, he explained.

“On some projects they [developer] start to construct slowly with work beginning in some areas that are already solved for the impact to the people, but some projects they [developer] wait for a little longer because they do not want to begin work then postpone, as it effects their work,” he added.

The agreement on the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway project was signed about a year ago between MPWT and China Road and Bridge Corporation. The 190-kilometre long expressway is expected to take four years to complete.
