Private Firm to Lease State Land in Koh Kong for Aquaculture Investment

Koh Mongkol Ratanak Sambath Co., Ltd has proposed leasing 369 hectares of state land in Sre Ambel district of Koh Kong province to invest in a large aquaculture project at a meeting between the firm and the Koh Kong provincial administration on 21 January.

According to the firm, the project will be implemented in three phases. However, the Koh Kong provincial administration may allow the company to lease only 100 hectares in the pilot phase.

After the second meeting, the government is yet to make any decision as they need more time to study the proposal. The firm has also not revealed details of the project or the investment value.

Aquaculture is the business of growing plants and raising animals in the water, which also helps protect mangrove forests and maintain the stability of biodiversity in the area.
