Over 80% Completion: Battambang’s Ambitious City Rehabilitation Nears the Finish Line

A transformative initiative to revitalise and enhance the infrastructure of Battambang City is making significant strides, with drainage and road construction projects on both sides of the Stueng Sangke River surpassing an impressive 80% completion mark. The update, shared by the Battambang Provincial Administration via its official Facebook page on 8 March 2024, sheds light on the substantial progress achieved over almost two years of dedicated construction efforts.

Mr. Pruon Ratha, Director of the Department of Public Works and Transport in Battambang Province, underscored the comprehensive nature of the project, encompassing the development of drainage systems, sewage facilities, and road networks on both the western and eastern banks of the Stueng Sangke. Notably, the infrastructure developments on the eastern side have exceeded the 80% milestone.

The provincial administration, in collaboration with the Department of Public Works, is actively urging construction companies to adhere to planned schedules, ensuring minimal disruption to local businesses. The ambitious project, spanning a total length of 60 kilometres, is slated for completion by the close of 2025.

Mr. Ratha extended a request for patience and understanding from the local populace, emphasising the necessity of the ongoing construction to avert water pollution issues. He highlighted the critical role of a well-prepared sewer system and designated locations for wastewater treatment, essential for releasing treated water for agricultural purposes.

This crucial urban development initiative in Battambang is made possible through a US$60 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), affirming international support for Cambodia’s infrastructural growth. (Read more)
