Renovated 250km Stretch of National Road 6 Inaugurated

Prime Minster Hun Sen cut the ribbon to officially inaugurate a stretch of National Road 6 in Kampong Thom

A 248.53km stretch of National Road 6, linking Thnal Keng in Kampong Cham province to Ang Krong in Siem Reap province was inaugurated on 11 June by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen.

Built by Shanghai Construction Group Co., Ltd.) and inspected by Guangzhou Wanan Construction Supervision Co., Ltd, the USD255 million project was 95 percent funded through a concessional loan from China. The five percent from the government budget was utlisied for compensation , demining, and the official tax levy, according to H.E Minister Sun Chathol in his remarks at the opening ceremony.

“I am honoured to preside over the inauguration of this important stretch of road, which was sponsored by China,” Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen said during the ceremony which was attended by H. E. Xiong Bo, Ambassador to Cambodia. The prime minister expressed his gratitude to the government and the people of the People’s Republic of China, who always help support Camboda’s economic growth.

The newly renovated stretch of national road runs across three provinces, starting from from Thnal Keng going through Skun of Kampong Cham to Steung Sen of Kampong Thom before ending up in Ang Krong in Siem Reap.

This stretch of the road is a potential onland road, physically linking institutions and the people of Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom and Siem Reap province to any other provinces and cities through the network of transport infrastructures restored and constructed by the royal government from one area to another, noted Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport H.E Sun Chanthol.

The road not only help ease the people tin travelling, but also an important lifeline for the country, especially tourism, he added.
