Renovation of Public Garden in Front of Defence Ministry Starts

The Phnom Penh Department of Public Works and Transport (DPWT) has kicked off the renovation works on the public garden in front of the Ministry of National Defence. The work is set for completion ahead of the inauguration ceremony of the new Defence Ministry’s cabinet building.

Sam Samuth of the Phnom Penh DPWT said on Wednesday 14 July that the working group has been working on removing the tiles and trees temporarily at the western side of the ministry.

As planned, the team will remove a 45m long garden to place a new entrance to the ministry. However, new trees and plants will be replanted on both sides, along with granite stones and lights.

Upon completion, this area will serve as a new public park for leisure activities and exercising spot for locals.

According to General Chhum Socheat, the Ministry of National Defense has ground broken since  16 June 2021 with a construction period of 36 months and the building is ten times larger than the old one. (Read more)
