Rooting for the Future as Kampot Greens Its Iconic Landscape with Thousand Tree Initiative

Peng Huoth Group joins forces with environmental authorities and IUCN to plant trees at Phnom Kampong Trach, supporting Cambodia’s 2050 carbon neutrality goal

In a collaborative effort to expand Cambodia’s forest canopy and nurture a deep-seated culture of environmental stewardship, a major reforestation event successfully took place in the scenic landscapes of Kampot province. Organized on the morning of June 29, 2026, the initiative saw the planting of one thousand sustainable trees within the resort area of Phnom Kampong Trach. The project represents a coordinated partnership uniting the private sector, local authorities, and international conservation specialists, with the Peng Huoth Group working hand-in-hand with the Kampot Provincial Department of Environment, the Kampong Trach District Administration, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

This meaningful ecological gathering was implemented as a core component of the broader Green Sprout campaign, an ambitious national movement launched by the Ministry of Environment. The campaign operates under the strategic framework of the Environmental Circular Strategy, which seeks to balance clean, green, and sustainable development across the kingdom. By focusing efforts on Phnom Kampong Trach, a renowned destination celebrated for its unique geographical formations, the project targets a region that serves as both a high-potential eco-tourism site and a critical sanctuary for diverse biological species, said Eng Polo, director of the Department of Environment in Kampot Province. The area is highly valued not only by leisure travelers but also by scientific researchers studying localized ecosystems.

The long-term vision of the tree-planting initiative is directly aligned with Cambodia’s national commitment to achieve comprehensive carbon neutrality by the year 2050. Beyond the immediate physical benefits of restoring local green cover and counteracting environmental degradation, the organizers emphasized the project’s role in inspiring communities to actively protect their natural heritage. By transforming corporate social responsibility into collective climate action, the joint venture sets a notable benchmark for how public-private partnerships can effectively support the Ministry of Environment’s circular sustainability goals while safeguarding sensitive wildlife habitats for future generations.
