Several Streets in Tuol Kork Area Closed Temporarily for Flood Protection System Construction

The Department of Public Works and Transport of Phnom Penh has announced the closure of some sections along Street 608, Street 315, and Street 598 for 29 days from March 18 to April 15, 2021.

The road closures are due to the construction of the new flood protection and sewage system, where the team is currently installing drainage pipes along Street 608. The drainage system will be later connected to the Toul Kork pumping station (Tralok Bek).

This pipe installation is part of the Phnom Penh Flood Protection and Drainage Improvement Project Phase 4 by JICA.

Funded by a US$36 million grant from the Japanese government, the project comprises of the construction of underground water storage, a water pumping station, a mechanical waste bin, and water pumping trucks.

The ground was broken on the project on 4 March 2019 by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen. (Read more)
