Sihanoukville Governor Requests China to help advance PP-SHV railway system

Sihanoukville Governor H.E. Kuoch Chamroeun has requested the Chinese government to help improve the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville railway, especially regarding technical advancement.

The proposal was made during a meeting between the governor and Chief Representative of the Chinese Consulate in Sihanoukville Jiang Wei on 16 February.

HE Chamroeun stated that the current PP-SHV railway is only good enough for simple goods and passenger transportation, but it has yet to meet the growth of the country.

“It would be great if the Chinese government could find more investors to make our train system become more advanced. With better technical assistance from China, I believe that we can reduce the cost of rail transportation, accidents, and road damage,” said HE Chamroeun.

The governor has also urged China to speed up the construction of a medical laboratory in a Sihanoukville referral hospital as well.

In response, Mr Jiang Wei said that China has been and will fully support Sihanoukville in promoting the growth of Sihanoukville, and in particular will continue to encourage more Chinese investors to come to this province.
