Tbong Khmum Plants 10,000 Palm Trees Along Cambodia-Vietnam Border as a Legacy for Future Generations

In a significant environmental initiative, authorities in Tbong Khmum province, alongside residents, have planted 10,000 palm trees along the Cambodia-Vietnam border to promote environmental awareness and create a lasting legacy for future generations. This tree-planting effort, which took place on 7 August 2024 in Ponhea Krek District, was led by HE Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment and the provincial administration, as part of the “Green Sprouts” campaign aimed at enhancing Cambodia’s natural environment.

HE Eang Sophalleth emphasised the importance of this event in preserving Cambodia’s national identity and culture while promoting environmental conservation. The Ministry of Environment has committed to donating 300,000 palm seedlings in 2024 as part of the “Green Sprouts” campaign, with a total of 1.3 million seedlings being distributed nationwide. These seedlings are intended for planting in various locations, including pagodas, schools, public spaces, and communities, to support the government’s goal of achieving 60% forest cover by 2050.

Additionally, Kampot provincial authorities recently planted 4,500 palm trees along the Cambodia-Vietnam border in Kampong Trach District on 21 July 2024 to commemorate “Plant Day” on 9 July 2024. (Read more)

Further efforts are underway in Kampong Speu province, where plans have been announced to plant tens of thousands of palm trees along Stung Prek Tnaot and at various resorts to enhance the province’s natural beauty and attract tourists. (Read more)
