Tbong Kmum Builds Almost 3000km of Road and Completes NR 71C Over 70%

In the last five years, Tbong Khmum provincial administration has made significant strides in enhancing infrastructure development, with the construction of over 2,698km of road across the province.

One of the major infrastructural projects currently underway in the province is the completion of NR No. 71C, which will connect Tbong Khmum District in Tbong Khmum Province to Chamkar Leu District in Kampong Cham Province. This road has a total length of nearly 115 km and is now over 70% complete, with a scheduled completion date of October 2024.

According to HE governor, the completion of NR 71C will significantly reduce travel time across the province. For example, travelling from Soung town to Chhuk district and continuing to the Cambodia-China Stung Trang-Kroch Chhmar Friendship bridge would take approximately 80km, whereas travelling through 71C would take only 65km, from the provincial administration to the bridge.

Of the 2,698km of road across the province, this includes 794 roads, with a total length of 2,469 kilometres, under the Department of Rural Development. Among them, 22 paved roads with a length of 509 km and 10 concrete roads with a length of 144.45 km have been built, while 62 roads with 690.69 km were repaired and maintained.

These developments are part of the province’s ongoing efforts to improve transportation and connectivity within the region, as highlighted by the governor of Tbong Khmum, H.E Cheam Chansophorn, during a recent press conference on April 20, 2023.

The Department of Rural Development has plans to continue improving the region’s transportation network by building 22 rubber roads with a length of 205 km and 5 concrete roads with a length of 32 km. Moreover, the road under the provincial public department is more than 229 km long. These efforts demonstrate the province’s commitment to further enhance its transportation infrastructure and connectivity.

NR No. 71 C is being built under a total investment budget of approximately US$130 million and is projected to complete in 42 months. The road is scheduled to be put into use in early 2024, and upon completion, it is expected to improve the province’s economic growth by facilitating easier transportation of goods and people.
