Sre Ambel District Gears Up for a Transformation: US$80M Investment Unveils 180-Hectare SEZ

Sre Ambel Free Trade Zone (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. has unveiled plans to inject a substantial US$80 million into establishing a sprawling 180-hectare special economic zone in Chroy Svay commune, Sre Ambel district, Koh Kong province. The ambitious project aims to become a pivotal catalyst for the growth of Chroy Svay commune and the broader Sre Ambel district.

The announcement, made via the official Facebook page of Mr Ouk Pheaktra, Deputy Governor of Koh Kong Province, on 5 February 2024, marks a significant milestone for the province.

A high-profile working group from the Inter-Ministerial Commission, including members from the Council for the Development of Cambodia and local officials, conducted a thorough inspection of the proposed investment sites. During the inspection, Deputy Governor Ouk Pheaktra provided valuable opinions and recommendations to ensure the project aligns with both regulatory and community considerations.

Deputy Governor Ouk Pheaktra’s Key Recommendations:

  1. Strict adherence to the conditions and procedures outlined by the CDC in establishing the special economic zone.
  2. Close collaboration with district and commune authorities to promptly address any emerging issues.
  3. Active support for local development through robust recruitment strategies and leveraging existing resources in Koh Kong province.
  4. Contribution to the development of essential infrastructure, including water, electricity, and roads in the vicinity of the investment site, fostering connectivity for residents.
  5. Implementation of a robust system to monitor and control air pollution, water quality, and proper management of hazardous waste.
  6. Active participation in environmental preservation, hygiene maintenance, and the promotion of green spaces in the proximity of the investment site.

The chosen location in Chroy Svay commune is strategically positioned amid ongoing developments, including the construction of rubber roads and coastal infrastructure, aimed at enhancing the area’s appeal to tourists. The upcoming special economic zone project is poised to play a pivotal role in propelling the overall development of Chroy Svay commune, Sre Ambel district.
