Gov’t Greenlights Three Major Malaysian Projects to Establish High-Tech Economic Zone & Halal Industries in Cambodia

The Cambodian government has given the nod to three significant projects proposed by the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCIM) in Malaysia. These ventures encompass the establishment of a high-tech economic zone, a technology development initiative, and an ecological project for the halal food industry in Cambodia.

The approval was conveyed during the Cambodia-Malaysia Business Forum held on 27 February in Kuala Lumpur. Sri Dato ‘Soh Thian Lai, President of the NCCIM, presented and sought support for the three projects from Samdech Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, as per the press release from the Royal Government Spokesperson’s Unit.

The outlined projects are:

  1. Cambodia-Malaysia Special Economic Zone: Focused on the high-tech sector.
  2. Technology Skills Development: An initiative for skill development in technology.
  3. Ecological Project for Halal Food Industry: A project dedicated to promoting halal food industry sustainability.

Samdech PM Hun Manet welcomed and expressed full support for these initiatives, urging collaborative efforts to expedite their realisation in 2024.

The Cambodia-Malaysia Business Forum, co-organised by the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce, the Malaysian Business Chamber in Cambodia, and the NCCIM, witnessed the participation of over 400 companies from both nations and relevant institutions.

Additionally, the three chambers formalised their commitment to fostering trade, economic ties, and business opportunities between Cambodia and Malaysia through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.
