Cambodia Securities Exchange Flourishes with Nine Companies Accumulating US$1.8 Billion in Capital

As of the conclusion of the first quarter of 2023, the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) proudly showcases a robust lineup of nine companies, collectively boasting an impressive capitalization of 7.61 trillion riels (equivalent to US$1.88 billion). These figures are derived from the recently published securities trading data bulletin for the first quarter of 2023, highlighting the remarkable growth and potential of the Cambodian capital market.

During this period, the equity market witnessed a total trading volume of 5.47 million shares, reflecting a marginal decrease of 7.58% compared to the previous quarter. Additionally, the total trading value amounted to approximately 49,992.81 million riels (around US$33 million), exhibiting a modest decline of 3.31% when compared to the fourth quarter of 2022.

The base market accounted for an overwhelming majority of the total trading volume, representing about 90.45%, while the growth market contributed approximately 9.55% to the overall trading activity.

Of notable significance, the CSX has recently granted preliminary approval to Mengly J. Company and Kouch Education Case CC, as well as Camji SMMC Co., Ltd., to proceed with the evaluation process for potential listing on the main market. These developments signify the continued expansion and diversification of the market’s offerings, fostering an environment conducive to increased investment opportunities.

On a parallel note, the bond market boasts the participation of nine companies issuing bonds. However, it is important to highlight that no buy-sell orders or trading activities have been recorded for corporate bonds thus far. Nevertheless, a momentous occasion occurred on January 19, 2023, as Golden Tri, under the distinguished trademark “GT27,” became the first green sign issuer in Cambodia to be listed on the bond market.

It is worth recalling that in 2022, the CSX demonstrated exceptional performance, amassing a staggering total capitalization of over 222 billion riels (equivalent to more than US$54 million). This remarkable achievement reflects an astounding year-on-year increase of 133% compared to 2021, underpinning the country’s growing prominence as a lucrative investment destination. (Read more)

The steady growth and continued success of the CSX firmly establishes its position as a dynamic marketplace, facilitating economic growth, encouraging investment inflows, and nurturing the nation’s financial ecosystem. As more companies seek to participate in this flourishing exchange, Cambodia is poised to bolster its reputation as an attractive investment hub within the global landscape.
